Orthodontics, Metal Braces

What Is Orthodontics?

Orthodontics means “straight teeth” and also the treatment of irregularities in the teeth (especially of alignment and occlusion) and jaws, including the use of braces. These treatments have been established more than a century ago and every day evolves into a new version for more comfort, effectiveness, and affordability. The traditional way of doing ortho treatment was attaching braces on top of teeth. Possibly every one of us can remember a friend in school wearing these wires which caused them problems when talking! Despite the funny way of talking, these “Fixed Ortho Treatments” are very effective ways of making the teeth straight.

Disadvantages Of Orthodontics?

There are some disadvantages as uncontrollable caries under the braces and wires especially if patients do not follow the proper oral hygiene at home, complicated treatments take a very long time, a patient needs to be in the dental office every month, long term of delivering treatments and uncomfortable feelings of wires in your mouth and unaesthetic appearance.

What Are Clear Braces?

Considering these problems a newer version of orthodontic treatment was introduced to the dental world which is widely known today as “Clear Aligners” or ” Removable Braces”. These are practically molds from your teeth which you put on and every 3 to 4 weeks change it to a new one. These molds are changing gradually and so they move and shift teeth into the upright and ideal position. These aligners are barely recognizable by other people, very easy to clean and use which comes at the end with distinguished results and beautiful smiles. Compared to wire and braces, with clear aligners, most patients are more comfortable, but still for complicated cases and/or smaller kids that can forget to use the aligners a fixed ortho treatment can be a good alternative treatment.

Clear Braces Treatment Process

When you decide to have clear aligners, we have to make an impression on your teeth or a 3D digital scan from your teeth. This impression will be sent to the dental lab plus your X-rays and pictures taken in the office from your jaw. A treatment plan based on your concerns and what alterations are needed is set up. This treatment setup will be discussed with you in the office. All aspects of treatment and expected final results will be explained. When you feel confident and ready to start the treatment, the office will contact the dental lab to fabricate your aligners.
